I happened to see a "rom-com" movie not too long ago (definitely not my usual thing). To be fair, I ended up kind of liking the movie. If you want a "rom-com" romp some evening, you could do worse than to tune in to "Leap Year," starring Amy Adams, with Santa Cruz native Adam Scott featured, as well. Click that link to the "Leap Year" title for a preview of the movie. The Motion Picture Association of America assures us that the preview has been approved for "Appropriate Audiences." I trust that anyone reading this will more than qualify as "appropriate."
At a very early point in the movie, an airplane heading for Dublin, Ireland runs into some "unexpected turbulence," as pictured above. That "turbulence" launches the movie on its long and convoluted trajectory to its satisfying and "romantic" conclusion.
Thinking about it, as I watched Amy Adams and her fellow airplane passengers deal with the distinct possibility that their normal lives (and maybe their entire lives) were about to be disrupted - and perhaps ended - by that "turbulence" that the pilot had warned the passengers about, but had significantly understated in terms of its potential impact, I returned almost instantaneously to my normal preoccupation with "politics."
I am hoping that the movie properly forecasts the outcomes that we can ultimately expect, after all the "turbulence" of our current politics has been left behind.
It's nice to know that even major "turbulence" can be survived, with a "Happy Ending," after all, despite how bad things look when that "turbulence" first hits!
Thinking about "Leap Year" as a talisman of our current political situation, it is pretty clear to me that we need to persevere, and that we to keep on keeping on, not panic and bail out!
Let's not give up on that possible "Happy Ending," though I do think we will have to work for it!
