It was released in 2019 by Maroon 5, an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California, and this link will let you see and hear the song as presented by Maroon 5. I have placed the complete lyrics to the song at the bottom of this blog posting.
This link to Wikipedia, which is also provided above, says that there was some controversy about the song when first released. Some critics called it, "trite," and there were other, related complaints, including a charge of blasphemy. With apologies to Maroon 5, I must say that I do prefer the version you will see and hear if you utilize the linked video at the top of this blog posting, as opposed to their own version.
I came across the song by chance, when it suddenly appeared on Facebook, sent my way by whatever algorithm it is that Facebook uses to determine what I get to see when I show up online, and then visit my personal Facebook Page.
I said that the presentation I have linked is "evocative." That's how I describe the One Voice Children's version. Probably because all those children, singing the song, are so young.
Ah, yes! "Memories"! I was that young once. Eighty years have passed by pretty fast, and my memories do bring back memories. So does Christmas, once more on my calendar tomorrow! Those "Memories" bring back all those people I have known, and have cared about, and loved. For me, it isn't "drinks" that bring back all the memories - as the lyrics claim. I don't need any alcohol to stimulate my thinking (and to bring back my memories, either). Whatever the trigger may be (for you or me), those memories do come! Actually, I have previously cited to Paul Simon, and to one of his songs, in mentioning this phenomenon before.
"Memories," as sung by the One Voice Children's Choir, made me cry. But I think in a good way! How happy I have been to have been alive. My wish is that you will be happy, too, when all those "Memories bring back Memories" for you.
And while we're all still alive, and kicking, let's make some more!
