#168 / Excessive Wealth Disorder

That is Gabriela Sandoval, pictured. Sandoval was previously a sociology professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Now, she is the Executive Director of a nonprofit Bay Area think tank called the "Excessive Wealth Disorder Institute."  Sandoval is standing in front of a San Marino home that was on the market for $21 million, as of April 6, 2023. The news story from which I obtained the picture is headlined, "A Wealth Of Problems." The article appeared in the San Jose Mercury News on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

You know how sometimes you just don't feel well? You don't know exactly why you don't feel well, but you're actually quite sick. That's why you don't feel well! You're sick, but you don't have a name for the disease.

Well, it looks like we finally have a name for one of the pathological conditions affecting national our health and happiness: "Excessive Wealth Disorder."

Let's start using that name, to remind ourselves of one of the things that is ailing us! As Sandoval says in the article, there's a cure for our wealth inequality problem. We can tax that excessive wealth, and if we do that, that will help us all do better!
