I am recommending an article titled, "Too Big To Scale," as found in The Great Change blog. The article provides some cautionary advice about "scaling up," one of the great desiderata of the big tech world. 

According to Albert Bates, who writes The Great Change blog, and who is an influential figure in the intentional community and ecovillage movements, what we should be shooting for is "appropriate technology," along the lines of E. F. Schumacher's advice that "small is beautiful." 

Bigger is not better, in other words. Scale up too much and the monster you create will come back to bite you.
