I am not a fan of Chevron's "We Agree" Campaign. I assume others have also seen the nearly ubiquitous full page advertisements that attempt to put the Chevron Corporation on what Chevron obviously thinks everyone will assume is the "right side" of just about every "good cause" you can imagine:
PROTECTING THE PLANET Is Everyone's Job - WE AGREE!
BIG OIL Should Support Local Schools - WE AGREE!
SHALE GAS Needs To Be Good For Everyone - WE AGREE!
It's an artful advertising con. But it's a campaign of lies and deceit.
If we want to "protect the planet," we need to stop burning hydrocarbon fuels, and that means we should be putting Chevron out of business. Do you agree?
"Big Oil" isn't where support from our schools should come from, either. Our local communities should be supporting our schools, so let's not let Chevron buy our local communities, as they tried to do in Richmond, California in last November's election. Do you agree?
And the last is the best! Shale gas is bad for everyone. That's the truth!! Do you agree?
Too bad I don't have tens of millions of dollars for my own campaign.
I'd show pictures like the one below (straight from a Chevron website, and in this case celebrating Chevron's oil production in the Gulf of Mexico). I'd accompany the pictures with a big red stamp, right at the bottom:
TELL CHEVRON TO SHOVE IT! DO YOU AGREE?

I love Amy Goodman's interviews with angry Nigerian protesters at COP2 - blasting Chevron and challenging it's right to be at the climate change table.
