#297 / Priorities

The California Budget Project put out a "School Facts" paper earlier this month. It said the following:

California spends a smaller share of its total personal income on K-12 schools than does the rest of the US, despite having more personal income per capita.

I am pretty sure that Jesus was speaking as a sociologist when he observed, "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

In other words, not only does our spending reflect our priorities, we actually establish our priorities by virtue of where we spend our money. Our "heart" follows our "treasure." That's a "sociological" not a religious observation, and I think it is an accurate one.

Is the United States the most warlike nation in history? That is not the popular view (at least in our country), but that is definitely where our treasure is going.

Do we want to achieve different goals? Let's redirect where we spend our dollars, here in California and nationally!

Educating young people wouldn't be a bad place to start.
