Today is my last day of work at the Wittwer & Parkin law firm (all the other attorneys in the firm are pictured above). Wittwer & Parkin is now calling itself Wittwer/Parkin, which is not a big change, though it is an "official" change, with some significant paperwork having been required.
For me, of course, leaving the law firm is a pretty big change. I have been "Of Counsel" to Wittwer & Parkin since November 2008, and have much enjoyed, and have benefited from, my association with the firm. Starting tomorrow, I will once again be practicing law as a sole practitioner, with an exclusive focus on environmental and governmental law. I have some exciting ideas of how to use an environmental law practice to help individuals and community organizations become more effective in the political and legal arena, as they confront the environmental issues that often have such an important impact on our lives. You will probably hear more about that in the future, either in this Two Worlds blog or elsewhere.
Most immediately, I am also going to be teaching two courses in the Politics Department and the Legal Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz: LGST 10: Introduction to the Legal Process, and LGST 110 (also listed as Politics 110): Law and Social Issues.
Frequent readers of this Two Worlds blog know that I think that we live, most immediately, in a "political world" that we create by our own collective actions and choices, and that our system of self-government proceeds like this: Politics > Law > Government.
I am looking forward to sharing these concepts with students at UCSC, and to making these concepts work in the real world for the clients I represent. If you would like to contact me, here's my new contact information:
