Nicholas Arguimbau, an old friend, has written an article about global warming (and what we should do about it). His article is worth reading. Arguimbau utilizes a formula to measure the impact of human activities on the natural environment. That formula, discussed in a Wikipedia article, was apparently developed in the 1970s, during the course of a debate between Barry Commoner, Paul Ehrlich, and John Holdren.
I = P x A x T
Where "I" is the measure of impact, "P" is the measure of population, "A" is the measure of affluence, and "T" is the measure of technology.
It think it does boil down to the conclusion that Arguimbau reaches: "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
