A "Weekend Reading" assignment from The Hannah Arendt Center suggests that federalism and freedom are joined at the hip. The locus of genuine political freedom, in other words, is local.
When the nastiness of national political discourse begins to invade our local politics, I get concerned. On the other hand, I know from personal experience that genuine, and what might even be called "revolutionary," political changes can be accomplished at the local, community level.
This Weekend Assignment is well worth reading. And thinking about!
