The grandson of some friends is applying to law school. Since I have been through the experience myself (albeit a long time ago), my advice was solicited. I was asked to review the grandson's proposed "personal statement," a submission that is required as a part of any law school application.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the personal statement I reviewed not only gave a nice tribute to the grandparents (my friends), but also used the grandson's political experiences, campaigning for President Obama in Nevada, as a kind of metaphor for the way that the grandson proposed to approach his law school studies. Going "door to door" in Nevada ain't easy, to put it mildly. This young man persevered. In the end, he said, I plan to "knock on every door."
That's a pretty good advisory for politics, or law school, or anything else.
