The phrase, "a picture is worth a thousand words," apparently originated with the advertising industry. According to Wikipedia, the phrase "refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image."
The image here is from a blog published by the Hannah Arendt Center For Politics and Humanities at Bard College, illustrating an article on "crisis."

Maybe it's just my acrophobia!
