Anyone who thinks that our politics would be improved if we could just eliminate the conflict and the controversy, and tone down all the disagreements and debate, is a bit foggy on the concept.
The "editorial process" by which our politics reconfigures the world will always require a struggle. The more important and fundamental the issue, the more struggle is required.
