John Searle has written a book called Making The Social World which I have perused at length. Its subtitle is "The Structure of Human Civilization."
I don't generally like books that utilize mathematical symbols and equations to explain things. And this book does that. I don't generally like books that utilize terms like "deontic power," to advance the concepts propounded.
But I do like Searle's book. I think he is on target. In fact, I now realize, having read this book, which was recommended to me by my friend Larry Spears, that my "two world hypothesis" is, on the "world we create" side, an elaboration of his theory. Or my theory, too, if you will accept "convergent evolution" as a reality. I swear I didn't read his book first!
