There are some genuine win/win situations. Sometimes, it is possible to fulfill the desires of all parties. Politics is probably not the arena where this works best.
If politics is mainly about making a collective decision about what we ought to do, the process of discussion and debate, leading to such a collective decision, will only work well if all sides are genuinely attempting to realize the goal that they truly think is best. Compromise, in other words (which is usually what is meant by striving for a "win/win" solution), may be an appropriate result of political debate and political action. But it shouldn't be the objective.
