I liked Jerry Brown's inaugural speech on Monday morning. The best line, I thought, was the very last line: "California here I come; right back where I started from!"
Our new Governor has a sense of humor, just in case we failed to notice!
There was some "philosophy" there, too. We confront, in California as in life, challenges that are more like continuing "conditions" than anything else. In other words, there are some things in life you don't just face, work through, and from which you then move on. Some things are just there, as constituent parts of our existence. When we realize that the irritations we may think of as episodic are actually just the conditions of our existence itself, we do come to the conclusion that all our new beginnings take us "right back where we started from."
