Last Tuesday night, and into early Wednesday morning, when I really should have been doing some work, I was proving the truth of the blurb from Publishers Weekly, printed in the front of City of Thieves. It is, indeed, a "hard-to-put-down novel."
City of Thieves is engaging; entertaining; endearing.
It is probably a true story, though it's hard to tell where Benioff's reporting of his grandfather's exploits leaves off and where art begins. If he even had a grandfather (and a grandmother) remotely like this.
Recommended.
