254 / Water
This coming Tuesday, the Santa Cruz City Council is being asked by the City staff to spend $4 million to design a desalination plant.
This is before any environmental review has taken place.
This is before any significant public outreach to see whether the public really wants to take the "desalination" route.
It's true, we don't have an Iguazu Falls in our neighborhood. Future water supplies are uncertain. Still, spending $4 million to design a plant before we know anything about its environmental impacts seems like going about it ... backwards!
