In Rio, I did the beach. But I visited the Tijuca Forest, too, a remnant of the Amazonian Rainforest that was here before Rio was built, and which is now a National Park. It is apparently the laargest natural park within a city anywhere in the world.
Getting to the "top" of Rio, the Corcovado, where Christo Redentor extends His protecting arms, I was able to note the still visible granitic elements of the place where Rio now is. And here is the conclusion to which I came: Rio de Janeiro was built in a place that was not that different from Yosemite.
If you can imagine that!
