According to a March 14, 2008 blog posting on Exploring The World, the image here is of the cover of the first U.S. edition of Earth Abides, by George Stewart. The blog has lots of different covers for Earth Abides, and this one certainly reflects the two-world hypothesis. Civilization may crumble (the world we create), but Earth (the world of Nature) "abides."
I hope it's true.
