Like many others, I suspect, I am doing my taxes today. Tomorrow is the deadline (unless you get an extension). I have "taxes" on my mind.
The United States Constitution provides that "the Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes ..., to pay the debts and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States ..."
Establishing a government with such powers was properly seen as the greatest achievement of the American Revolution. In view of that, shouldn't we consider April 15th to be a national civic holiday?
Maybe we should. Let me see how I feel tomorrow.
