I started this blog on January 1, 2009, and called it "Abrazos / 365," referring in the title to one of my favorite books, El Libro de los Abrazos, by Eduardo Galeano. If you are not familiar with Galeano's work (in either English or Spanish), I highly recommend it - and I mean any of his work. His writing is both "political" and profoundly "human."
At the beginning of the year, I had high hopes of writing something each day, so that's where the "/ 365" came from. On this last day of 2009, I must confess that I simply didn't do what I had planned.
Next year (which starts tomorrow) provides a new opportunity actually to do what I had wanted and intended to do when I started this blog last January - write something meaningful each day. I am going to make another attempt, and I am keeping the "/ 365." I've changed the title of this blog, however, for the year upcoming, to reflect my continuing efforts to understand "the world" by seeing it as consisting, in fact, of "two worlds," both of which we inhabit simultaneously, and one of which we create ourselves.
So ... Happy New Year. And until tomorrow ....
